When do Beavers meet?

Back to top

Boys and girls aged 6 to 8 years of age.

Beaver Scouts is the youngest of the four youth sections offered by 1st Bedworth and the most popular. This means that we do on occasion need to operate a waiting list. Because of this, we advise anybody interested in joining Beavers to get in touch as soon as possible to check availability and get your name down to avoid disappointment.

At the first meeting, parents are given a copy of a registration form. The completed registration form should be returned at the meeting the following week.

1st Bedworth has two Beaver Colonies:

* Tuesday, 6.00pm to 7.00pm – Woodward Colony

* Thursday, 6.00pm to 7.00pm – Barlow Colony

Occasionally their on optional activities on other evenings and at weekends.

Weekly subscriptions for membership of 1st Bedworth is £2.00 per week for all sections. This fee covers activity insurance, programme materials, badges and helping to heat, light and maintain the building. It is still payable even if a member does not attend a Colony Night. Please also be aware that activities outside of the section meeting may be at extra cost.

Beaver Scout activities are a combination of learning and having fun:

* They learn about and how to look after themselves.

* They get to know people from their local community.

* They find out about life in other countries.

* They explore through organised activities.

* They care by helping those around them.

We also offer occasional activities on other nights and weekends. Meetings are run by a trained, experienced, Beaver Scout Leader who is supported by a team of Assistant Beaver Scout Leaders and helpers who have all been vetted by an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau checks.

As with the other sections of 1st Bedworth, Beavers have their own uniform too:

* A smart turquoise sweatshirt,

* Royal blue neckerchief,

These are worn to all colony meetings and activities together with a suitable pair of trousers, jogging bottoms or shorts, and suitable footwear.

On formal occasions Beaver are also expected to wear

* black or dark grey trousers or shorts

* Black, navy blue, or dark grey socks

* Black boots or shoes

The Beaver Sweatshirt is available from us and costs £12.The necka’ is presented free when the recruit is invested, and most Beavers wear their school trousers and shoes with their uniform on formal occasions.

Once a new recruit has their uniform they take part in a simple ceremony where they make the promise and become a full member. This ceremony is called an 'investiture' and is held at the end of the section meeting. Parents are more than welcome to attend their child's investiture.

Beavers are expected to learn the Promise before their investiture.

The Beaver Scout Promise:

I promise to do my best. To be kind and helpful and to love God.
