Who can join Explorers?

Boys and girls aged 14 to 18 years of age.

Explorer Scouts is the last of the four youth sections offered by 1st Bedworth. Having two large Beaver Colonies, two large Cub Packs and two large Scout Troops in the Group means we always have young people moving up to this section as they get older. This means that we do on occasion need to operate a waiting list. Because of this, we advise anybody interested in joining Scouts to get in touch as soon as possible to check availability and get your name down to avoid disappointment.

At the first meeting, new members are given copies of the information on this page and a registration form. The completed registration form should be returned as soon as possible.

A copy of the registration form can be downloaded from our documents page.

When do Explorers meet?

1st Bedworth has one Explorer Unit:

* Monday, 730-930 pm

How much does Explorers cost?

Weekly subscriptions for membership of 1st Bedworth is £1.75 per week for all sections.

This fee covers activity insurance, programme materials, badges and helping to heat, light and maintain the building. It is still payable even if a member does not attend a section meeting.

Please also be aware that activities outside of the section meeting may be at extra cost.

What do Scouts do?

Explorer Scouts meet once a week at their 'Unit' night.

Explorer Scouts enjoy lots of social activities and have the opportunity to take part in more challenging adventurous activities. In addition to the Scout Associations own training and award scheme, 1st Bedworth also offers the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.

The programme includes a wide selection of activities with the emphasis on the outdoors. This means we also offer occasional activities on other nights and weekends which may be at extra cost.

Meetings are run by a trained, experienced, Explorer Scout Leader who is supported by a team of Assistant Explorer Scout Leaders and helpers.

Explorer Scouts are offered the chance to work as Young Leaders with the junior sections of the Group. Young People who take up this opportunity are given leadership training including modules on first aid, manageing groups, programme planning and child protection. Young Leader volunteering counts towards Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and Millennium Volunteers service hours.

See videos and photos of the Group in action on our media and gallery pages.

What do Explorers wear?

As with the other sections of 1st Bedworth, Explorer Scouts have their own uniform too:

* A beige coloured shirt,
* Royal blue neckerchief,
* Black or grey trousers or shorts,
* Dark coloured socks,
* Black boots or shoes.

The shirt and neckerchief typically costs around £20, and most Explorer Scouts wear their school trousers and shoes with their uniform.

The Scout Promise and Law

Once a new recruit has their uniform they take part in a simple ceremony where they make the promise and become a full member. This ceremony is called an 'investiture' and is held at the end of the section meeting. Parents are more than welcome to attend their child's investiture.

Explorer Scouts are expected to learn the Promise and Law before their investiture.

The Scout Promise:

On my honour I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty, to God and to the Queen To help other people
and to keep the Scout Law

The Scout Law:

1. A Scout is to be trusted
2. A Scout is loyal
3. A Scout is friendly and considerate
4. A Scout is a member of the world wide family of Scouts
5. A Scout has courage in all difficulties
6. A Scout makes good use of time and is careful of possessions and property
7. A Scout has self respect and respect for others
